Mistakes to Avoid When Launching Your First Token

May 20242 min read
  1. Forgetting to Revoke Authorities
Leaving mint, freeze, or update permissions active is one of the biggest red flags in crypto. It tells the community: 'I can still change things… or rug pull.'
    Fix:
Always revoke mint, freeze, and update authority before launching your token publicly especially if you want people to trust it. (P.S on mintcoin.fun this is completely free)
  2. Using a Weak or Generic Name/Symbol
'TestCoin123' or 'MyToken' might work in dev mode… but in public? It looks unprofessional and gets lost in the noise.
    Fix:
Pick a unique, memorable name and symbol. Keep it short, brandable, and ideally 4–8 characters.
  3. No Plan for Utility or Distribution
What's the point of your token? If you can't answer that clearly, your holders won't either.
    Fix:
Explain your token's purpose in the description. Think about how it will be used: community access, game utility, staking, etc.
Decide how you'll distribute it (airdrop, LPs, rewards, etc).
  4. Skipping the Logo
A missing or pixelated token image screams 'not ready.' On DEXs and wallets, your image is everything.
    Fix:
Upload a clean, square logo (PNG recommended). Make it pop. This is your brand's face.
  5. Not Releasing Control
If you keep full authority over your token, people may worry you're not serious or plan to change the rules.
    Fix:
Once everything looks right, revoke your powers. Let the token stand on its own.
  6. Spending on Liquidity Without a Strategy
Some users jump straight into liquidity pools without understanding slippage, impermanent loss, or token demand.
    Fix:
Test small. Learn how Raydium pools work. Build a community or buzz before adding deep liquidity.
  7. Forgetting to Test First
If you rush your mainnet launch and something goes wrong it's costly to fix.
    Fix:
Use Solana devnet to test everything first: name, decimals, supply, image. Once it looks good, go live.
